Ten convicted of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The two married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
